Voice, Representation and Agency

This area of research focus embodies QMU’s commitment to social justice and helping to improve people’s lives locally, nationally and internationally. We believe that ‘voice’, the ability to be heard and listened to, is a key resource in the development towards social participation.

Work in this area focuses on creating ways in which people whose voices are often not heard can empower themselves and achieve agency by challenging stereotypes, shaping solutions and bringing about social change through inclusion, co-production, power sharing, and accountability. Through critical dialogue, creative and non-fiction filmmaking and other approaches, researchers work with communities whose perspectives may challenge policies, practice and power structures.
