After completing my BA (hons) in Linguistics, I moved to Edinburgh and qualified in 2010 as a Speech and Language Therapist from Queen Margaret University. Upon graduating, I worked in paediatric posts, with my first post being in a residential school for young people with additional support needs in Perthshire. I then spent a short spell in Melbourne, Australia, managing a general paediatric caseload.
On returning to the UK, I accepted a post in a neurorehabilitation unit in Edinburgh, which involved supporting adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. In the latter part of my post, I also worked in a neurorehabilitation unit for patients with acquired brain injury and associated behavioural disturbance. Areas of particular interest include working with patients with disorders of consciousness and also supporting those who exhibit behaviours that challenge.
In 2022, I taught at QMU as a Visiting Lecturer, and joined shortly after as a permanent member of the teaching team.

I am a member of The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists as well as The Health and Care Professions Council.
My teaching and research interests are in the area of adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
